We have all been overwhelmed with the last few weeks’ tragic events and natural disasters, and while there are ways to help those in need like donation of money or blood, L.A. dining community has found their own way to raise awareness and funds for those hit by natural disasters. L.A. chefs are uniting together to organize special events, where you can help out and donate to such worthy cause – here are a few of those for you to check out:
L.A. Loves Puerto Rico
More than 70 member of the L.A. dining community together bring you a week where a menu of 100 dishes and cocktails go towards Unidos Puerto Rico. The organization was founded by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rossello; 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to to help those hit by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Visit Rossoblu, Trois Mec, the Bazaar by Jose Andres, and more from October 7 through 14 to donate to the cause.
Originated in Texas, this breakfast-taco spot has organized a fundraiser to help with hurricane recovery that will last throughout the year. Make sure to order the Don’t Mess with Texas taco, which was created to raise funds for the central Texas Food Bank. Have a taste of this deliciousness consisting of bacon, potatoes, cheddar and refried charro beans in a flour tortilla –and all for a great cause!
Superba Food + Bread
On Friday, October 13, Angelenos are encourage to attend a benefit dinner hosted by Superba Food + Bread. The dinner donates to both the Hurricane Harvey and Irma Hospitality Fund and the Blacno de Alimentos Food Bank of Puerto Rico. You are in for a six-course meal for $125 a ticket. Enjoy an evening of fall dishes from their chef Anthony Goodwin with pairings by Steve Clifton of Palmina Wines, all from 7 to 10pm.
Union chef Bruce Kalman is bringing you the “Pasta for the People” fundraising special. Come in to support disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico, Texas and Florida through the American Red Cross. On the week of October 8 through 14 the spaghetti alla chitarra is the special; October 15 through 21 – the squid ink lumache; and lastly, October 22 through 31 order the tagliatelle with pork ragu, grana padano and gremolata.
