LA has a variety of resources for people with special needs. Many public, private, and commercial facilities provide for sight, hearing, and/or mobility impaired people. Public transit provides various types of assistance to the elderly and disabled. Major crosswalks equipped with audio signals and ramps are most common in neighborhoods where colleges and universities are located. Here is a list of some available services and agencies that can offer referrals and assistance:

- Westside Regional Center for Independent Living, 310-258-4000; offers a variety of services, from counseling to living skills, for seniors and people with developmental disabilities.
Telephone relay services for the hearing/speech impaired are available free of charge through the California Relay Service (CRS). They will relay phone calls between TTY and voice callers. There is no charge for the service itself; however, regular toll and long-distance fees apply. For TTY to voice, call 800-735-2929; voice to TTY, 800-735-2922. You can also dial 711 anywhere in the US to reach the relay service.
Special adaptive telecommunications equipment can be obtained free of charge by qualified California residents through the California Telephone Access Program, 800-806-1191, TTY 800-806-4474.
