Groceries:
The major supermarket chains that operate here: Ralphs, www.ralphs.com, the biggest and most successful chain in Southern California; Vons, www.vons.com, the oldest chain in Southern California; and the relative newcomer, Albertsons, www.albertsons.com, are your every day neighborhood grocery stores that also offer member discounts. Many Ralphs and Vons stores have remodeled, making the shopping experience markedly more pleasant. Gelson’s, www.gelsons.com, and Bristol Farms, www.bristolfarms.com, are gourmet market chains with premium prices, but first-rate service. Trader Joe’s, www.traderjoes.com, is known for its specialty foods and wine sections at bargain prices. Whole Foods, www.wholefoods.com, is an upscale health food grocery chain with a large selection of fresh and prepared foods.
