Napa has one main viticulturla area covering the whole county, and several sub-zones. Eight Zones have been officially recognized, and one, Diamond Mountains, still awaits approval. Napa Valley grapes command high prices, so the name is prominent on labels. Most wineries own vineyards in several of the regions of Napa, and some are beginning to focus their identities on a single area.
Napa Valley, the main VA, encompasses literally every single vine planted in Napa County, including regions- Chiles Valley, Pope Valley and Wild Horse Valley- that are not in any way within the Napa River’s watershed.
Mount Veeder VA runs along the Mayacomas Range. Its hill slope wineyards are planted at altitudes raging from 120-800m (400-2,600ft) above sea level.
