A large group of gyms, related fitness buildings, and beauty businesses have transformed the area near city hall into Health Row. Head south to Melrose and you’ll find many more posh eateries including Elizir, 8612 Melrose Avenue, which features an Asian herbalist who concocts restorative tonics.
West Hollywood is also the site of the Pacific Design Center (www.pacificdesigncenter.com), which features a huge collection of interior design showrooms that anchors the myriad interior decoration businesses along Melrose, Beverly, and Robertson Boulevards. Further south on La Cienega Boulevard is the Beverly Center, a multi-level indoor mall, and its other half, the Beverly Connection, a smaller outdoor mall. The northernmost part of West Hollywood features some of the trendiest sites on Sunset Boulevard, including nightclubs like House of Blues, The Viper Room, and The Laugh Factory.
Farther west is Sunset Plaza, a tiny strip of sidewalk cafes and designer label retailers, where celebrity sightings are not unusual. Clean and well-tended apartments and condominiums make up the majority of residences lining the leafy streets, radiating out from the highlife scenes section of Santa Monica Boulevard. The buildings are a mix of older Spanish-style homes and the modern boxy three-to four-story stuccos.
