Locals use the alphabetically arranged nautical street names, “Anchorage” down to “Yawl” to refer not only to the streets themselves but also to the warm, inviting beaches at their side. In fact, real estate is at such a premium here that 90% of the residential buildings in Marina Del Rey are multi-unit housing; less than 3% are single detached homes, and these are primarily beach cottages.
An abundance of modern apartments, many built since the 1980s, can be found throughout the rest of Marina Del Rey, with gyms, swimming pools and tennis courts as common features. At the western end of the 90 Freeway, you’ll find new condos offering sweeping views of the city and ocean, complete with the finest amenities. Overall housing prices in Marina Del Rey lean toward the high end; many young professionals just out of college often room together as housing buddies.
